Training - Visual Testing (VT)

Our Visual Testing (VT) Course is designed to give a student the familiarization and understanding to be able to recognize welding discontinuities. This course is taught both as a modified VT familiarization course and for certification. The certification of a Visual Testing (VT) Technician is the responsibility of the his/her employer, but can be contracted out as long as the ASNT Level III performing the training is representing that company in Non-Destructive Training.

Visual Testing (VT) is one of the most important testing methods in the Non-Destructive family. Visual Testing is always performed before any other inspection. It is a relatively simple examination providing the technician is familiar with welding discontinuities and applicable codes, standards or specification requirements. It will sometimes consist of using measuring tools and the inspector must have the skills to use these tools. It is limited to a surface examination only. A student taking this course will learn the dos and don'ts of Visual Testing and how to evaluate any indications to a code. Currently, Base Line Data, Inc. is teaching this course for familiarization and certification. The students taking the course for familiarization will go through sixteen (16) hours of intense training. Those going through for certification must satisfy twenty-four (24) hours of training. Both courses consist of three examinations. Upon successfully passing this course, a student will be issued a Certification of Completion for the documented training hours. Students who successfully pass the examination, have the required experience hours and whose company is contracted to Base Line Data, Inc. for ASNT Level III services will be issued a Level I or Level II certificate. These certificates are valid for three (3) years. Most industries require certification for technicians performing non-destructive examinations. Having this training or certification will assist in obtaining employment in this field and will boost one's potential for higher pay. Both day and night class alternatives are available. A minimum of eight (8) students is necessary for the class to form. These courses are offered at least four times a year and the dates, pricing and sign-up can be accessed through the posted schedule. All courses are taught with the student in mind and are designed to give the student the ability to perform Visual Testing examinations.
