Training - Ultrasonic Shearwave Level I & II (UT) Course

Our Ultrasonic Shearwave Course consists of two levels of training, Level I and Level II. Covered in the first week are the theory of Ultrasonics and some hands-on instrument training. The second week focuses on how to calibrate the instrument and perform ultrasonic evaluations. Both weeks are designed to give the student the necessary training hours to understand and acquire ASNT certification. The certification of a UT Technician is the responsibility of his/her employer, but can be contracted out as long as the ASNT Level III performing the training is representing that company in Non-Destructive Training.

Ultrasonic Testing is a complex examination and the student must acquire the necessary experience to be able to perform this examination accurately. In the simple form, Ultrasonic Testing consists of merely passing ultrasound through a material at a given velocity. Upon hitting a reflector, the sound is then reflected back to the instrument. The reflector may consist of the back wall of the material or a flaw left in the material from a welding operation. With the proper training and experience, the technician is able to determine the wall thickness of the material or evaluate an indication as to whether it is acceptable or not.

The first week of training consists of forty (40) hours of classroom with some hand-on training. satisfies Upon successfully passing this course, a student will be issued a Certification of Completion for the documented training hours. Those students that successful pass the examination, have the required experience hours and whose company is contracted to Base Line Data, Inc. for ASNT Level III services will be issued a Level I or Level II certificate. These certificates are valid for three (3) years. Most industries require this certification for technicians performing non-destructive examinations. Having this training or certification will assist in obtaining employment in this field and will boost one's potential for higher pay. The course will consist of twenty-four (24) hours of classroom training and testing. Both day and night class alternatives are available. A minimum of eight (8) students is necessary for the class to form. These courses are offered at least four times a year and the dates, pricing and sign-up can be accessed through the posted schedule. All courses are taught with the student in mind and are designed to give the student the ability to perform Magnetic Particle examinations, along with the understanding of how this technique works, when it should be applied, and how it should be interpreted.
