Services - Specialty - Time of Flight Diffraction

Time of Flight Diffraction is an Ultrasonic inspection process that allows a weld to be scanned through its full cross-section and a copy of this scan can be saved and printed for permanent documentation. TOFD is based on diffracted signals and not reflected energy like conventional pulse echo Ultrasonic Shearwave. The TOFD inspection uses equipment very similar to a Shearwave examination, except it uses one or more transducers simultaneously on both sides of the weld. Coupled with an encoder, computer and software, a permanent image can be captured. This allows an inspectpr to return at a future date and re-evaluate these defects for growth.
